CAMP AT THE MET GALA

The Met Gala which was formerly known as the costume institute gala (Met Ball) is an annual fundraiser gala for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Arts Costume Institute in New York. The event which holds on the first Monday of May, held on the 6th of may 2019. With past themes like Heavenly bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination and Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology, this years theme is Camp: Notes on Fashion and as usual this leaves everybody trying to decipher what exactly it means.

Camp can basically be described as exaggeration. It simply means taking an idea that is truest to who you are, how you feel at a particular moment and how u wish to express it and pushing it to the limits of your imagination. like billy porter here

Anna Wintour, the US Vogue editor in chief chaired the event and as usual the enlisted celebrities to serve as co-chairs.Beyonce, Rihanna and Katy Perry have all previously served as co-chairs, but for this year which marks the Met Gala 71st anniversary, the honour of co-chairing went to Lady Gaga, Harry Style, Serena Williams and Alessandro Michele.

LADY GAGA.                                                            Everybody expected that gaga would slay but nobody knew how extra she was to be. Lady Gaga was the living embodiment of a Russian doll. She walked in wearing a voluminous pink gown, carried by six men wearing tuxedos and holding umbrellas. After a while she was helped out of the dress, the first reveal of the night, her second look was a black gown with an asymmetrical sweetheart neckline and a side bustle, which then led to her third dress, a hot pink strapless column dress which she paired with an enormous mobile phone. Ultimately her last look was her stripping down to her undergarment, while pulling a wagon load of champagne behind her.

CARDI B. Cardi wore an oxblood dress made by Thom Browne, complete with half a million dollar worth of nipples. The dress was made from tulle and silk organza. The hand embroidered dress is also decorated with 30000 burned and dyed Coquet feathers. It took 35 people more than 2000 hours to create and was finished off with a bugle beaded headpiece.

SERENA WILLIAMS                                                  Serena Williams wore a bright yellow floral embellished atelier Versace gown and a pair of matching sneakers showing us all that she can also be campy.

HARRY STYLE.                                                          For his very first Met Gala, Harry turned out looking all lavish in an all Gucci look. From the pants to the sheer shirt with just the right amount of ruffles  which put his tattooed torso on display, paying homage to the 80s power silhouette.
